Go For a Walk

The best places to take a walk (or a run)…

  • Old Pitt Street Bridge (Mount P)

    • A trolley once connected Mount Pleasant to Sullivan’s Island here. Now, it’s a beautiful place to look over the Charleston Harbor to watch the sunset and also a popular fishing/crabbing spot. There are palm trees lining the park-like setting. Bring a blanket or grab a bench to soak in the views. It’s about a 3.5 - 4 mile roundtrip walk from Sullivan’s Nest (depending on how far you go on the ‘bridge’).

  • Beach on Sullivan’s Island (Sullivan’s)

    • No explanation needed here. An early morning walk on Sullivan’s is just what the doctor ordered. If you get there early enough, you shouldn’t have ay problem finding a parking spot where you want…and you may be able to pick up a sand dollar or two.

  • Ravenel Bridge (Mount P)

    • We suggest you park at Waterfront Park on the Mount Pleasant side of the bridge. The full bridge walk is about 5 miles (2.5 miles each way). So, it’s a good workout…whether you do the whole thing or just half of it.

  • The Battery (Downtown)

    • The Charleston Battery is a landmark point Downtown where the Ashley and Cooper Rivers meet. It’s also the elevated seawall that was constructed to protect Charleston from incoming storms. The architecture and views here are awesome. There’s also a nearby waterfront park.

  • Shem Creek Park (Shem Creek / Mount P)

    • Located on the ‘other’ side of Shem Creek, Shem Creek Park is a beautiful walk that features a 2000+ foot long boardwalk. See shrimp boats, wild life, and great views of the water and marsh.

  • Stroll Through Old Mount Pleasant

    • From Sullivan’s Nest, take a left up the sidewalk on Ben Sawyer and then a left on Center Street. A walk through Old Mount P (and the Old Village) is a relaxing way to spend an hour or two. Beautiful homes, Live Oak trees, and a series of parks makes for a nice morning or evening stroll.
